National service is a mandatory task that every graduate from any tertiary or College of Education must undertake to serve the nation, the program was introduced for all graduates of tertiary institutions and who are above the age of 18 in 1973.

Can you do national service without graduation?

The national service in Ghana is mandatory for all graduates who are of sound mind and have completed any of the Universities or Colleges in Ghana, this means that if you are not yet graduated from the University or College then you are not qualified for this national service.


And if you also drop out from the University or College that you were attending then it also means that you are not a graduate and you too can not do the national Service as the school you graduated from will be in charge to submit your particulars to the national service Office.


And if you have completed University or College then you need to know what other things can prevent you from doing your national service.


Which month does the national service start in Ghana?

The national service personnel who graduated from Universities this year 2022 are supposed to start their service as of 1st November 2022. But as for those that graduated from colleges of Education, their registrations are supposed to start on 3rd December 2022 whiles the main service will start on 8th January 2033, (source).


Which month does the national service end?

In Ghana, the national service is supposed to take 12 months so if you have graduated from any of the Universities and you have started the service on the 1st of November 2022, in this case when you do the calculation of 12 months it will be ending in October 2023.


But if you are a graduate of any of the Colleges of Education then when you start on the 8th of January 2033, you will be ending it in December 2023.

What happens if you skip national service?

The national service Is a mandatory task for all graduates, but if you happen to skip yours at the time that you were supposed to do it due to circumstances beyond your control then the office of the National Service in Ghana will give you a second chance to be able to undergo this mandatory service.

Can I do national service twice?

Doing the national service in Ghana twice is something that is impossible as all graduates are required to enter their data into the system and once your data is been entered into the national service system you can not register it again in the subsequent year to do it again.


How much is the NSS allowance?



Currently, the national service personnel is supposed to receive a monthly allowance of  GHC 559.04.but however, but there have been a lot of rumors circulating about the increment of this allowance yet there is no proof that the allowance has been increased. 


So national service personnel will be receiving the same amount if nothing really changes, although the national service personnel is hoping that there will be an increase in the allowance this year.
