Asamoah Gyan made his retirement from football official



 Finally, Asamoah Gyan has decided to end his playing career.

At the age of 37, the former striker for Liberty Professionals declared his retirement from the game.

On June 20, 2023, he announced in a speech at the 30th Afreximbank Annual General Meeting held at the Accra Conference Center that he had formally ended one phase of his career and would now work as a player scout, coach, and in other football-related roles.




Asamoah Gyan signed a one-year contract with local team Legon Cities two seasons ago, and it was with them that he last participated in a Ghana Premier League match.

Gyan, who has scored 51 goals in 109 games for the Black Stars, is still Ghana's all-time leading scorer.

He scored at the World Cup and is the first Ghanaian to do so.

With six goals, Gyan has the most World Cup goals scored in Africa.

He was the first player in the annals of football to score in nine straight major international competitions.

In recognition of his outstanding performance at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, Gyan was chosen as the 2010 BBC African Player of the Year.



He joined Italian Serie A club Udinese after his initial departure from Ghana in 2003, where he played two seasons on loan at lower division team Modena.

Following a solid showing at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, he departed French club Stade Rennes for English Premier League team Sunderland. He was transferred to Stade Rennes in 2008.
He has also played for Shanghai SIPG in China, Kayserispor in Turkey, Al Ain, and Ahli Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.

Due to his outstanding accomplishment at the national level for Ghana, Asamoah Gyan will forever be remembered as a legend in the sport.
